As of Monday July 26th, I have 218 till my first tryout!  This will be a College combine in LA (details are being finalized).  At this event, there will be over 100 college coaches either in person or by video streaming, needless to say a tremendous opportunity!

There is something crazy that happens when you put a date to a goal.  A sense of urgency and reality is created…shit, 218 days! I can’t waste one!

I was always fascinated by the story of Al Oerter. Al was an Olympic Discus thrower who was the first athlete to win a gold medal in the same event across four consecutive Olympic Games.  Now before you say, “oh, he must have just been dominate”, know this, he won 4 Olympic gold medals and was either, too young, too hurt, or too old to win!  It is truly an inspiring story of a kid from New Hyde Park who went on to be one of the greatest Olympians of all time.

One of the techniques he used to help him focus on winning the gold was to put four 365-day calendars on a wall and circle the Olympic Discus finals day.  He would just worry about “today” and making sure that he gave all he had in his training “today”.  He would put an “X”  on the calendar at the end of each day before he went to bed as to say, “I made the most of today”.

Can you imagine looking at 1460“Xs” on four years worth of calendars? All symbolizing “I got it done” on each and everyday!   Just the self -confidence alone would be amazing!

So I have my version of that for the next 218 days. My only goal is to take care of today!

Just be great today…
Just be my best today…
Just give my all today….

If I do that 218 times, the try out will take care of itself!
